Migration · myBillBook → TatvaBooks
Migrate from myBillBook — graduate from billing to books.
A step up from myBillBook (by FloBiz) to TatvaBooks. Import your parties and items from an Excel export, set opening balances, and get CA-ready double-entry books with GST compliance built in. Beta onboarding help included.
Is TatvaBooks a good alternative to myBillBook?
Yes — if you’ve outgrown billing and need real books. TatvaBooks is full double-entry accounting with a Schedule III chart, GSTR-2B reconciliation, concurrent multi-user access and built-in payroll. myBillBook still wins on quick phone-first billing at a counter. The switch trades billing speed for accounting depth.
| Dimension | TatvaBooks | myBillBook |
|---|---|---|
| Core model | Full double-entry accounting — vouchers, ledgers, groups, Schedule III | Billing-first — fast GST invoices, stock and payment tracking |
| Platform & access | Cloud-native — any browser, any device, concurrent multi-user | Mobile-first (Android / iOS) with web access; cloud sync across devices |
| Financial statements | Trial Balance, P&L and Balance Sheet on a Schedule III chart of accounts | Business reports (sales, stock, receivables); not formal Schedule III books |
| GSTR-2B reconciliation | Built into the purchase flow — match 2B, resolve ITC mismatches before filing | GST invoicing and return-ready reports; 2B reconciliation is limited |
| e-Invoice (IRN / QR) | Prepared on the invoice (IRN + signed QR), sandbox-tested; live NIC filing on roadmap | e-Invoice generation on higher-tier plans |
| Payroll (PF / ESI / PT / TDS) | Built in — PF, ESI, PT, TDS and full-and-final (Growth plan) | No built-in payroll |
| Multi-user / CA collaboration | Concurrent users — accountant, partner, CA — with role-based access | Cloud sync across your own devices; not built for multi-user CA collaboration |
| Audit trail | Immutable edit-log on every voucher (Companies Rules-aligned) | Transaction records on the device/cloud; lighter audit-trail coverage |
| Data residency & backup | India-resident cloud (AWS Mumbai), encrypted at rest, daily backups | Cloud sync; data stored on FloBiz infrastructure |
| Pricing model | Solo (free) · Business ₹599/mo · Growth ₹1,099/mo · Practice ₹1,999/mo | Subscription tiers — features step up with plan; some gated behind higher tiers |
| Data migration | Parties and items via Excel/CSV; openings set with our help | Source system — export parties and items to Excel; history stays in myBillBook |
Honest caveats: myBillBook is fast and easy on a phone — if that’s the core of what you do, it may be all you need. TatvaBooks needs a browser and a connection, our e-invoice is prepared rather than filed live to NIC today, and we migrate parties and items, not your full transaction history.
Why teams move from myBillBook
myBillBook, built by FloBiz, is a great first step out of a paper bill book. The reasons businesses come to us follow a pattern — they’ve hit the ceiling of a billing app:
- Your CA wants books, not just bills. A Trial Balance, a proper P&L, a Schedule III Balance Sheet — the things a CA needs to file your return and an auditor needs to sign off. Billing apps produce invoices; they don’t produce books.
- GSTR-2B reconciliation by hand. If you’re downloading your 2B from the portal and matching it against invoices in a spreadsheet, that work should live inside your accounting system.
- Features gated behind tiers. The feature you need is one subscription tier above the one you’re paying for. TatvaBooks gives you complete accounting on every plan — you upgrade for scale, not for basics.
- Payroll on a spreadsheet. myBillBook doesn’t do statutory payroll. If PF, ESI and PT calculations live in Excel next to your billing app, that’s a sign you’ve outgrown it.
- Your CA can’t log in. myBillBook syncs across your devices; it isn’t built for your CA and your accountant to work in the same books at the same time with their own roles.
What myBillBook does well — let’s be fair
- Phone-first billing. Raise a GST invoice from your phone in seconds — that’s genuinely useful for on-the-go businesses and small retailers.
- Low barrier to start. The app is easy to learn, and the free tier gets you billing quickly without needing to understand double-entry.
- Payment reminders and tracking. Built-in payment reminders and receivables tracking — simple and effective for cash-flow management.
- Cloud sync. Your data syncs across your devices automatically — no manual backups needed.
If those are the core of how you run, the right answer might be to keep myBillBook at the counter and move accounting, GST and payroll to TatvaBooks. We’ll say so on the kickoff call.
What comes over today
- Parties — customers and suppliers, with GSTINs and addresses, from the myBillBook Excel export.
- Items — your product/service list, set onto a Schedule III chart of accounts.
- Opening balances and stock — set as on your cut-over date, with our help, and reconciled before you sign off.
- A clean parallel run — myBillBook stays as your archive while new transactions go into TatvaBooks.
Automated migration of historical transactions isn’t part of this — your history stays safe in myBillBook during the parallel run, which is the honest, low-risk way to step up.
The onboarding process
- Day 0 — Kickoff. A 20-30-minute call. How you use myBillBook today, what to bring over, and the cut-over date.
- Day 1 — Export masters. Export your parties and items from myBillBook to Excel and upload them. We map them to the Schedule III chart of accounts.
- Day 1 — Opening balances. We help you set opening balances and stock as on the cut-over date. You sign off on the numbers.
- Day 1 onward — Parallel run. myBillBook stays as your archive; daily work shifts to TatvaBooks; you reconcile at month-end.
- First cycle — Go-live. A walkthrough with your team, then your first GST cycle with us on WhatsApp.
Beta onboarding — included
During our private beta we help you get set up at no cost. That includes the kickoff call, importing your parties and items, setting opening balances, the go-live walkthrough and a hand through your first GST cycles. We do this ourselves because every business that outgrows a billing app comes with slightly different data, and doing the onboarding alongside you is how we make the product better.
What we don’t yet do
- Phone-first POS billing. TatvaBooks is browser-based accounting, not a mobile POS — there’s no barcode-scan-and-bill workflow from a phone.
- Live e-invoice filing to NIC. We prepare the IRN and QR (sandbox-tested); live filing is on the near-term roadmap.
- Payment reminders. Built-in payment reminders like myBillBook’s aren’t in TatvaBooks today — receivables are tracked, but automated WhatsApp/SMS reminders are on the roadmap.
Timeline expectations
- Single business: parties and items import in minutes; setting openings and getting comfortable is a session or two. Most are posting live within a day or two.
- 2-5 businesses: a few days, run one at a time so each set of openings is signed off.
- CA practice with several client books: a couple of weeks in batches, GST-active clients first.
Frequently asked questions
What comes over from myBillBook, and how long does it take?
Your parties — customers and suppliers — and your item list, exported from myBillBook to Excel and imported into TatvaBooks. You set opening balances as on the cut-over date (we help), and your historical transactions stay in myBillBook as a read-only archive. Importing masters takes minutes; most single-business accounts are posting live within a day or two.
What is the difference between myBillBook and TatvaBooks?
myBillBook is a billing app — it raises GST invoices fast from a phone, tracks stock and payments, and sends reminders. TatvaBooks is an accounting system — every transaction posts as a double entry to ledgers, so you get a Trial Balance, P&L and Balance Sheet your CA can file from, plus GSTR-2B reconciliation and payroll. Billing apps produce documents; accounting software produces books.
Will I lose my fast billing speed?
Be honest with yourself: if you bill at a counter from a phone and speed is everything, myBillBook is genuinely good at that. TatvaBooks is GST-accounting-first — invoices are GST-correct with place-of-supply validation at entry, which catches errors earlier but isn't a barcode-and-cash-drawer POS. If your day is high-volume counter sales from a phone, weigh that honestly; if it's invoicing customers and keeping clean books, TatvaBooks fits.
Does TatvaBooks have payroll? myBillBook doesn't.
Yes. TatvaBooks has built-in payroll — PF, ESI, professional tax, TDS on salary and full-and-final settlement — on the Growth plan. If you've been running payroll on a spreadsheet alongside myBillBook, that moves into your books in one place.
I'm on a lower myBillBook plan and features I need are gated above me. Does TatvaBooks do that?
TatvaBooks has three plans — Solo (free, up to ₹25 lakh turnover), Growth and Practice — but the core accounting is complete on every plan: full double-entry, GST-correct invoicing, GSTR-2B reconciliation, credit/debit notes. Payroll and multi-location stock are Growth features. We don't gate basic accounting behind tiers.
Can my CA work in TatvaBooks alongside me?
Yes — that's a core design goal. Your CA logs into the same books from their own desk, sees the same ledgers, and files from the same numbers you see. myBillBook syncs across your own devices; TatvaBooks is built for concurrent multi-user access with role-based permissions.
What about my stock and inventory?
Your item list comes over from the Excel export, and you set opening stock quantities as on the cut-over date with our help. TatvaBooks values stock FIFO or weighted-average, with multi-location godowns on the Growth plan. We do single-level BOM with AS-2 costing if you also assemble or manufacture.
Is the beta onboarding really free?
Yes. During our private beta we help you get set up at no cost — the kickoff call, importing your parties and items, setting opening balances and a hand through your first GST cycle. Public-launch pricing is still being finalised; if you onboard during beta, your onboarding stays free.
Who should not switch from myBillBook?
If you're a small shop that mainly needs fast GST billing from a phone at a counter and rarely touches formal accounting, myBillBook is a good fit and switching may not be worth it. We'd rather say that than sell you something you don't need. The businesses who benefit most are those who've outgrown billing and want real books, GSTR-2B reconciliation, CA collaboration or payroll.
Can a CA move several myBillBook clients at once?
Yes. We onboard client books in batches and prioritise clients with active GST cycles. Tell us how many businesses and GSTINs, and we'll scope a realistic timeline — parties and items in, openings set, parallel run for the first cycle.
