Why TatvaBooks

Built for India. Only for India. By Chartered Accountants who've never built for anyone else.

Zoho Books, QuickBooks, and Xero are fine pieces of software, designed for a different customer than you. India is a localisation module on their roadmap. For us, India is the entire roadmap.

Books anyone can keep.
Books your CA can trust.

Where they win

Let's start here. They're genuinely better at things we haven't built.

We're not trying to win every row. If any of the below is central to your business, pick them. We'd say the same thing if you asked us.

Ecosystem

45+ apps in one login. If you want CRM, mail, sign, inventory, subscriptions, expense — all together — they have it.

Maturity

Shipping accounting software since the early 2010s. Edge cases handled. Workflows battle-tested.

Marketplace integrations

Shopify, Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho — all native, all polished.

Multi-country

If you sell in eight countries with eight tax regimes, they're built for that. We are not.

Where we're ahead

Seven decisions we made differently.

01

Four tiers vs six tiers with hidden feature gating

The popular cloud product has six tiers. The features you actually need are scattered across them. Need multi-currency and custom roles and warehouse stock? That's three tier crossings — and a bill that doubles by the time you have them all. We have four. Each has a clear job: Solo (freelancer), Business (small business), Growth (mid-sized with payroll, manufacturing and multi-location inventory), Practice (CA firm). If you're not sure which tier you need, the answer's on one page.

02

Two products. Not forty-five.

The moment you sign up there, the pitch shifts to "use all 45 apps." Most SMBs came for accounting and stay overwhelmed. We do two products: TatvaBooks (your books) and TatvaCRM (your customers). That's it. We are not trying to be your operating system.

03

Voucher entry that feels familiar to a CA

Their data model is invoice-led. Vouchers exist, but they're buried under "manual journals" several menus deep. For an Indian CA trained on voucher-style entry for twenty years, this is foreign and slow. TatvaBooks treats the sale voucher (purchase, receipt, payment, contra, journal) as the first-class workflow. F8 opens a new sales voucher. Ctrl+Enter posts it. The right rail shows the journal entry as it will post. CA muscle memory respected.

04

India is the foundation, not a localisation module

Their product is built for a global customer base. India is a tax pack — GST is a module, GSTIN is a custom field, e-Invoice is a separate flow you wire up. TatvaBooks is India only. GSTIN is the primary identifier. Place-of-supply auto-detects from it. The e-Invoice IRN/QR payload is prepared inline — sandbox-tested during the beta. RCM is a checkbox on the invoice itself. There is no "global mode" to fight against.

05

The Indian comma

Type ₹1,00,000 in most cloud products. It displays as 100,000 in some places, 1,00,000 in others. The format drifts because the product was internationalised after launch. Type 1,00,000 in TatvaBooks. It stays 1,00,000.00. Lakh-format lives in the field itself, every field, every screen. A small thing. A signal of who the product is built for.

06

Support staffed by Chartered Accountants

Most cloud accounting support teams are global. They know the product. They don't always know that GSTR-1B doesn't exist (you meant 3B), that your client's GTA invoices need RCM, or that the new GST circular changed e-Way bill thresholds. Our support is staffed by CAs. When you email us, the person who replies has filed real returns.

07

The CA practice tier is published

Their CA practice offering is quote-only. You request a demo, they price you. You never quite know what you're paying for what. Our Practice tier is ₹1,999/mo, listed on the pricing page. Up to 15 client books, three firm staff seats, a per-company compliance tracker with email reminders, a client portal under your firm's name — all published. No "talk to sales" theatre.

On the road · in the office · at the customer's site

Take your books to your pocket.

TatvaBooks's native iOS and Android apps are landing during the beta, alongside the web. One login. Same data. Same voucher discipline.

  • Raise a sale voucher from your phone at the customer's office
  • Approve an invoice from the airport
  • Snap a vendor bill with the camera and attach it to the purchase voucher
  • Check today's receivables without opening the laptop
  • Email reminders for GST and TDS due dates — with mobile push planned as the apps ship
  • F8 still opens a sale voucher · sales-ledger mismatch detector still blocks wrong-ledger posts

When to pick what

Honest recommendations.

Two of these rows are really product decisions you can watch in action: how we block a wrong-ledger sale at posting , and how we pre-classify a GSTR-2B reconciliation into seven buckets.

If you run a multi-product indian saas with global customers… The global product
If you need crm + mail + 40 other apps in one login… The global product
If you sell into 8+ countries with different tax regimes… The global product
If you want simple india-only accounting, ca-led… TatvaBooks
If you hate setup wizards that ask 40 questions before the first invoice… TatvaBooks
If you are migrating from offline accounting and want familiar voucher entry… TatvaBooks
If you want a ca to onboard you, not a chatbot… TatvaBooks
If you find your bill keeps creeping up while your team uses the same handful of screens… TatvaBooks

What's true today

TatvaBooks is in private beta. Some features described on this page are live; some are shipping over the next quarter. Live today: the sale voucher, sales-ledger mismatch detector, place-of-supply auto-detection, immutable posted vouchers, balanced-voucher enforcement, payroll, inventory and AS-2 manufacturing costing. GSTR-2B import with ITC reconciliation is live; e-Invoice IRN/QR is prepared and sandbox-tested, with live filing to the NIC portal on our near-term roadmap. We don't file GST returns or e-invoices to the government for you — your books and reconciliations are kept clean so you (or your CA) submit on the portal. Coming during the beta: the iOS + Android apps, bank-feed automation and workflow automation. Your CA onboarding contact will tell you what's in your beta build on the day you sign up.
