What is invoicing software?

Invoicing software replaces the Word template or the printed bill book with a tool that creates, sends and tracks your invoices for you. In India, "invoicing" and "GST" can't really be separated — a bill has to carry the right tax, the right HSN/SAC code and the right place of supply, because those numbers are what your GST returns are built from later.

TatvaBooks gets this right at the moment you raise the invoice, not as a clean-up job before filing. It's built by Chartered Accountants specifically for Indian GST — not a generic template adapted for India after the fact.

GST-correct invoices at source

Every invoice you raise on TatvaBooks works out:

  • CGST / SGST / IGST — decided automatically from your state and your customer's, not left for you to pick.
  • HSN / SAC codes — captured at the item level so every line carries the correct code.
  • Place of supply — validated when you save the bill, so a wrong-state invoice gets caught at entry, not at filing.

The result: your GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B workings roll up ready to review, because they're built from invoices that were correct from the start. See the full mechanics on our GST billing software page, and the layout rules on our invoice format guide.

Get paid faster

An invoice only matters if it gets paid. TatvaBooks lets you share a bill as a PDF or a shareable link, and shows you at a glance which invoices are paid, part-paid or overdue — so chasing receivables doesn't depend on a memory or a side spreadsheet. You always know who owes you what, and since which.

Credit & debit notes

Returns, price corrections and cancellations happen — TatvaBooks lets you raise a credit or debit note directly against the original invoice, so the GST reverses exactly the way the law expects and the adjustment flows into your GSTR-1 workings automatically, with no manual journal entry required.

Frequently asked questions

What is invoicing software?
Invoicing software lets you create, send and track bills without a spreadsheet or a pad of printed books. For an Indian GST-registered business, that means more than a pretty PDF — the tax (CGST/SGST/IGST), HSN/SAC code and place of supply need to be right on every invoice, because those figures flow straight into your GST returns. TatvaBooks builds that correctness in at the point you raise the bill, not as a later clean-up step.
Is invoicing software free in India?
Yes — TatvaBooks Solo is ₹0, free forever, with unlimited GST-correct invoices and credit/debit notes for solopreneurs up to ₹25 lakh turnover. No card, no expiring trial, no per-invoice fee. You move to the Business plan (₹599/month) only when you need inventory, e-invoice preparation or more than one user.
Is TatvaBooks just invoicing, or full accounting?
Invoicing is where most people start, but TatvaBooks is a full double-entry accounting product underneath — every invoice you raise posts to your books automatically, so your ledgers, GSTR-2B reconciliation and financial statements stay current without a separate re-entry step. You get an invoicing tool with real books behind it, not the other way around.
Can I use invoicing software as a freelancer with no accounting background?
Yes. On the Solo plan you don't need to know double-entry accounting to raise a correct invoice — GST, HSN and place of supply are worked out for you, and the underlying books are kept correctly in the background. It's built for a freelancer or consultant who wants to bill client, not learn bookkeeping. See our freelancer page for more.
Does invoicing software handle credit and debit notes?
Yes — credit and debit notes are raised against the original invoice, so the GST reverses exactly the way the law expects and your GSTR-1 workings pick up the adjustment automatically. This matters for returns, price corrections and cancellations, which are common enough that they shouldn't need a manual journal entry.
How do customers pay an invoice raised on TatvaBooks?
You share the invoice as a PDF or a shareable link, and you can track whether it's been viewed and whether it's paid, part-paid or overdue — so following up on receivables doesn't rely on memory or a separate spreadsheet. Online payment collection against the invoice is on our roadmap.
